Many of the slots we review on this website are designed by just a few operators and one of the most prolific and longest running providers of online slots software is Playtech.  In fact it would be unfair to pigeonhole Playtech as just a slots provider; the company designs software for many different online casinos and games as we shall see in this article.

Teddy Sagi founded Playtech back in 1999; the company wasn’t the first to provide online casinos with gaming software but it was in there near the beginning of the internet gambling revolution and it’s been going pretty strong ever since.  The company describes itself as the world’s largest online gaming software supplier.

Although the company was formed in 1999, the first deal for a casino to sign up to use its software wasn’t until 2001; a large bricks and mortar casino went online with Playtech in 2002 and in 2003 the company launched it’s global Bingo network, Bingoland, and the Live Casino.

iPoker and Videobet were launched in 2004 and Playtech became involved in mobile gaming in 2005.  In 2006 the company was floated on the London Stock Exchange with a value of around £550 million, demonstrating how far the company had come in a relatively short time.  The share price took a bit of a dent in 2006 when the United States passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, slashing online gaming activity in the US almost overnight.

In the subsequent years, Playtech has expanded its operations into a number of other fields including sports betting, a dedicated download casino for Betfair, a partnership with William Hill Online and Paddy Power.  Acquisitions have included Ash Gaming, Virtue Fusion, Vikings, Psiclone Games, Mobenga, Rarestone Gaming, Quickspin, Sunfox Games, Icon, GECO Gaming and Geneity.
