Dublin-based Cryptologic are deservedly regarded as one of the biggest players in the online software industry; specifically they are a major provider of online casino software in the ever-growing electronic gaming industry and that’s the bit that interests us.

The story of the birth of the company is an interesting one; it was founded by two brothers named Andrew and Mark Rivkin while in their mid-twenties.  The brothers were already accomplished entrepreneurs by the time they formed Cryptologic in the basement of their parents house in Toronto in 1995; originally it was an internet security company but quickly became an online gaming business as the potential size of that market became apparent.  Wagerlogic is the name of the subsidiary company that came to handle the licensing of its products.

Within a year InterCasino, the world’s first online casino, had licensed Cryptologic to produce software to run their operation.  One more year on and the company was one of the biggest players in this relatively new market.

The Rivkins ended their involvement with the company in 2003 when it was listed on the London Stock Exchange and this era was one of massive percentage growth in terms of company value and users of their software.  Licenses were issued by Alderney and the Isle of Man as the company made a move into the European market.

As far as online slots go, Cryptologic makes a lot of them and there’s plenty of choice at the casinos we recommend.  In 2005 the company forged an agreement with Marvel Enterprises to produce a range of slots based on Marvel comics characters and these are all connected to Cryptologic’s progressive jackpot network.

This licensing deal for Marvel slots came under some strain in 2010 when Playtech also signed an agreement with Marvel to produce it’s own superhero-themed slots but the dispute was resolved amicably, leading to a situation where both companies produce different slots with the same name.

In 2012 Cryptologic was absorbed by Amaya Gaming and in 2017 Amaya became The Stars Group Inc.
