“This is Sparta!” yelled Leonidas in the film adaptation of Frank Millar’s graphic novel and since that moment we’ve seen several online slots dedicated to this famous Spartan warrior. Leonidas: King Of The Spartans is another to add to the list, it’s a conversion from a physical machine developed by Incredible Technologies and it includes several interesting bonus features.
Leonidas is a five reel slot with four rows and forty fixed paylines; the ornate reels are slanted backwards and they spin against a backdrop of a rocky, barren landscape as red clouds move swiftly across the sky.
There are four theme-related symbols including three manly portraits of Leonidas, his helmet and his knife; 9, 10, J, Q, K and A represent the lower values.
The wild symbols is big gold ‘Wild’ and it will substitute for all others except Queen Gorgo – she’s the bonus symbol which activates the main feature.

Group Leonidas Win
This is triggered when reels one and two are filled with the close up view of Leonidas; they will now turn into drawn shields and remain in place while the remaining reels spin again; more full stacks landing will continue the process. This symbol pays out for at least two on a payline so there’s always a guaranteed win.
Random Leonidas Win
This is a randomly occurring bonus and during any spin at least six close up Leonidas symbols will drop onto the reels, increasing the chances of landing wins.

Verdict
The Battle of Thermopylae is always a good theme and Leonidas does the business here with lots of extra features and some nice graphics. We found it quite tough to trigger the main feature but it was a big winner when it eventually happened.
