A long way away in a cavern deep underground, there’s a rather cute-looking dragon sitting on a rock surveying the huge hoard of gold and jewels in front of him. Jewel Of The Dragon is a five reel slot with four rows, forty paylines and some similarities to Bally’s Sumo Kitty (review). The higher value symbols are a bell, a crown and a shield with the remainder being 9, 10, J, Q, K and A.
The ‘Wild’ symbols is appropriately wild and there’s a dragon icon which represents the bonus icon.
Bonus Features
Hot Zones
As you spin the reels in the base game you will notice Tetris-like shapes falling through; these are Hot Zones and if they stop on the reels, any positions they cover will turn wild after which the reels will be evaluated for wins.
Drop Zone Bonus
You will see that some symbols also contain a small pink diamond; these appear only on reels two, three and four and if you land three anywhere in view on those reels this feature is triggered.
You must now select one of three diamonds to reveal a Drop Zone (essentially another Hot Zone) which will be dropped onto the reels, turning all covered positions wild. Once it’s in place any new wins will be evaluated.
Dragon Nudge Feature
In the screenshot below you can see a smaller range of Hot Zones; if one of these lands completely outside the reels but in view this feature is triggered.
The dragon will now nudge this Hot Zone down onto the reels and all those covered position will become wild, after which any wins will be evaluated.
Free Spins
The spins are triggered by landing three or more of the dragon bonus and/or wild symbols anywhere in view. You will receive the following:
- Three scatters/wilds – 8 spins + 1x total stake
- Four scatters/wilds – 8 spins + 2x total stake
- Five scatters/wilds – 8 spins + 5x total stake
The spins cant be re-triggerd and only the Hot Zone feature is active during this feature. Hot Zone wilds will lock for the remaining spins which can pay out some big wins – check out the video above.
Verdict
We like a slot with lots of features and Jewel Of The Dragon certainly delivers the goods; the free spins seem to be where the money is but it’s a little bit hard to trigger.
