We like an animal-themed online slot as much as the next person, assuming they also like games of this nature of course. A new addition to that genre is Prowling Panther from IGT and this is dedicated to this noble feline hunter and it’s rainforest habitat. It has a familiar but slightly odd reel layout which has become a mark of IGT.
Prowling Panther is five reel slot with 720 ways to win. You can see the reel layout in the screenshot above and there are no standard paylines – matching symbols in adjacent reels from left to right will pay out. A hazy, lush green jungle forms the backdrop to those reels.
High value base game symbols include a parrot, a toucan and of course the black panther; 10, J, Q, K and A represent the lower values.
The wild symbol is represented by the 2x icon, it’s also stacked on reels two, three and four. See below for more information on how it works as part of a winning combo. The golden panther symbol is the scatter which activates the feature.

Wild Multiplier
This can be a little bit awkward to understand so we’ll use the toucan example below to illustrate what happens. Each 2x wild symbol counts as two of the winning symbol so you need to total the number of toucans in each column and then multiply them together.
This means 1 x 3 x 5 x 1 = 15. Now that 15 is multiplied by the prize for the 4 toucan symbols (50 coins) which equals 750 coins. You may well not be interested in how the prizes are calculated but we like to know, hence the explanation.
Free Spins
This feature is triggered by landing at least one of the golden panthers anywhere on all five reels; you will now receive 8 free spins for each combination of five panthers on show, the most we’ve won is 48 but there’s a possible 96 available.
There’s no multiplier for the wins but landing five more panthers across the reels will award 8 more spins up to a maximum of 256.
Verdict
We’ve had some big wins triggering the free spins feature but otherwise this is a fairly run-of-the-mill slot, despite the 720 ways to win. We’re not saying it’s not enjoyable but we think there are better animal-themed games out there. The stated RTP varies from 92.09% to 96.09%.
