Online slots developers have a long and mostly successful track record when it come to designing sports-themed games. Football-related slots fall into that category and there have been some really good ones such as Sensible Soccer – but this is a World Cup year and we are happy to announce the impending arrival of a brand new Microgaming release to celebrate the tournament called Football Star.
Football Star is a five reel game with 243 paylines; this is Microgaming’s way of getting rid of all the standard paylines and paying out wins as long as the symbols are on adjacent reels from left to right. The backdrop to the reels is a three-tiered stadium and of course all the symbols are footie-related.
Those symbols include football boots, a referee, a football pitch, a kit and then five players from different nationalities. A flying ball is the scatter symbol which triggers the main feature and the game’s logo is the wild symbol. The wild is stacked in this game on reels three, four and five so there’s lots of extra chances for big wins.
This is a random bonus which strike at any time and will turn one of the middle three reels completely wild. If no win is forthcoming, the reels will spin again until you land a prize.
We like this feature – the symbols in any win will disappear, allowing more to drop into their place. More wins can then be formed meaning that those too will disappear. Long win sequences can be formed in this manner.
Landing three, four or five of the ball scatter symbols anywhere on the reels will entitle you to 15, 20 or 25 spins. The Rolling Reels become important here and each consecutive win will increase the prize multiplier. You can see the multiplier scale above the reels during the spins which you can view in the video above.
Unfortunately you can’t re-trigger the spins from within this feature.
Football Star Online Slot Playing Tips
There’s no player interactivity here so we’ve very little to offer in the way of advice. Keep the music on though to get you in the mood for the upcoming World Cup.
This is good stuff – some nice animations and sound effects are coupled with an array of bonus features which should keep you busy after your team gets knocked out in the group stages.
