New gameplay mechanics don’t come along very often – sometimes they make an impression and become wildly popular while others fall by the wayside after outings in handful of online slot machines. A good example of the former is Megaways, the payline structure designed by Big Time Gaming which can generate a potential 117,649 ways to win and now that same developer has introduced Megaclusters.
Megaclusters was introduced to the slots world in June 2020 in the shape of Star Clusters, BTG’s arcade-style game ; it’s an entertaining release for sure but it’s enhanced by the new gameplay mechanic.
How Do Megaclusters Work?
Megaclusters are reasonably simple to explain and they’re triggered every time a winning combination is formed on the reels – in Star Clusters you’ll need to match five symbols next to each other horizontally or vertically but this would also work on a traditional slot setup.
Once the combo is created those each symbol involved disappears and is replaced by four smaller ones – for a five symbol win those five would then be replaced by twenty five symbols increasing the winning potential and brightening everyone’s day.
With Star Clusters this works in conjunction with what Big Time Gaming call ‘reactions’ in which winning symbols disappear and are replaced by more falling in from from above, only this time the replacements are four smaller symbols. Symbols only decrease in size once (for example those four symbols aren’t then replaced by sixteen) and when the reactions are finished the reel set will revert to its original state with regular-sized symbols.
If we’ve made it sound a bit complicated you can rest assured it’s not and if you’d like some video evidence of that statement then have a look at this Star Clusters gameplay video.
