Every four years the youth of the world are encouraged to gather together to test their sporting prowess against those from other nations. In reality of course we’ll be watching athletes trained to within an inch of their lives compete to win medals in forty or so sports – thirty two in summer and eight in winter.
The original Olympic motto most of us recognise as Faster, Higher, Stronger (Citius, Altius, Fortius) but in 2021 the word ‘Together’ (Communiter) was added on the end, presumably to foster a bit of friendship to counter the competition. Pierre de Coubertin is most associated with the founding of the modern Olympics but he credited his enthusiasm for organised sport to the Ancient Greeks and to visits to British schools during his lifetime, viewing their sporting prowess as a platform for the domination of the Victorian empire.
On with the important stuff though and there’s actually a disappointing lack of online slot machines with an Olympic theme – we’d like something along the lines of Konami’s 1983 classic Track & Field but with spinning reels instead of relentless button mashing.
