Let’s take a step back from the spinning reels for a few minutes to check out something a little different. This is Golden Derby, it’s from Net Entertainment and it’s a chance for players to get to grips with ins and outs of betting on a horse race. Golden Derby is a game of two parts – the first stage where you can select from a wide range of betting opportunities and the second stage in which you watch the race itself. When you first load up the game you will be faced with a betting screen which may seem a little complex so our guide below should help you out.
How It Works
Betting Stage
This might look a little dating to begin with but fear not! The list of horses is one the left hand side with their decimal odds attached. Then there are three betting options – 1st place, 1st or 2nd and 1st, 2nd or 3rd. This is similar to an ‘each way’ bet. You can see there is another tab at the bottom titled ‘Exacta’ and ‘Quinella’. An Exacta bet requires you to name the 1st and 2nd place finishers and a Quinella needs the 1st two in any order.
Now you can place your bets and you do this by clicking in the chosen slot, selecting the chip size on the right hand side then clicking ‘Add Bets’. The Bet Slip tab will glow to show you have done this and here you can remove any bets you don’t want.
If you think the race form might be useful then click on that tab view each horses performance in the last five races.
Race Stage
Now you’re ready to race just click the ‘Start Race’ button and the event will be played out in front of you. The animations are pretty impressive here and it’s quite a pleasure to watch the race unfold.
Progressive Jackpot
You will also notice a list of numbers to the right of the race area when it begins. If the horses finish the race in that order you will win the progressive jackpot, the total prize you can see above the playing area.

Verdict
This is like one of those old mechanical arcade games where a horse on a stick carried your hopes and dreams; this is much better however and gives you lots of information on which to make your choices. The races are quite exciting also.
