It’s time to take a trip out to the Arabian desert to spin the reels on Genie’s Gems, a Microgaming release which uses the ancient power of the magical genie to tempt us into parting with our money in return for a chance to win some big payouts. Clearly freed from his lamp following a deft polish, he is now dispensing gems to lucky players.
Genie’s Gems plays out over five reels and just five paylines; this is one of Microgaming’s older games which generally followed the design of large reels which filled the whole screen. Nothing bad about that but we do like a nice scenic background to our slots.
The five main symbols are all related to theme and these are the golden domes of an elegant building, a flying carpet, the famous lamp, a giant blue diamond and the genie himself. At first glance the building looks a bit like a gold R2-D2 from Star Wars but it isn’t. The lower value symbols are the standard 10, J, Q and K.
The simplicity of this game is outlined by the absence of any wild symbols or bonus features so this is a slot where spinning the reels is what it’s all about.
Get started by selecting your stake using the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons underneath the reels; this will give you a range of £0.25 – £5.00 per spin. You can then choose how many of the five paylines to have active meaning there is a betting range of £0.25 up to £25.00.
This is a high variance slot meaning that payouts are likely to be rarer but higher; the highest payout available is worth 10000x your line stake and triggered by landing five of the genie symbols on an active line.
It is also possible to win with just two symbols on a payline but only in the case of the 10 & J.
Genie’s Gems is certainly a little dated now but if you’re looking for a simple slots experience you may find something attractive here. Otherwise move on to something better.
